Seniors can make showering safer and easier by using a shower chair (also called a shower bench). It allows them to remain seated while washing and reduces the amount of time they spend standing on a wet slippery surface.

Shower benches allow the user to remain seated while showering, which reduces their risk of falling.
They are typically made of metal and plastic.
They are designed for anyone who has decreased strength, endurance and balance. Seniors fit into this category. Using it is an excellent way to reduce falls and there is never a soft landing in the bath/shower!
Seat height - Make sure you can adjust the seat height so the user can get on and off safely and easily. Not too high that they cannot touch the floor but not too low that it is hard to stand up. Make sure this applies to ALL users... some styles are more adjustable than others.
Weight limit - Make sure it is suitable for the intended user. The typical weight limit is 250lbs.
They can cost between $50 and $150 depending on the quality and design.
Non-slip bathmat - I highly recommend a non slip surface of some sort. It only takes one fall to cause serious injury. Why take that chance?!
Hand Held shower-head - Allows users to wash their entire body while remaining seated. Some benches and chairs also have a place built in to hold the shower-head while you wash.
Bathtub rail - It gives the user something secure to hold onto while stepping into and out of the bath tub.
Grab bars - Also gives the user something secure to hold onto while stepping into the bathtub or shower.
