A toilet safety frame (TSF) can make a big difference in making toileting safer. Seniors can and do get stuck on the toilet because the seat is too low or they have nothing to push (or pull on) to help them stand.

They make it easier for seniors to get on and off the toilet. The two main reasons people have a hard time are: 1) seat height is too low and 2) There is often nothing secure to push or pull on to help them stand up. TSFs help with the push and pull issue. A raised toilet seat or toil-elevator solves the other issue.
They are typically made of metal and plastic.
They are designed for anyone with decreased strength, endurance and balance. Many seniors fit into this category.
Handle height - Make sure it can be adjusted so that the handles are low enough so the user can easily push up from the handles and at the same time high enough that they can still touch it for balance while standing.
Sturdiness - Make sure to trial a few different designs as some fit better than others. There is one design in particular that feels loose and many seniors do not feel secure using this style.
Weight limit - Make sure the item you purchase is suitable for the intended user's weight.
They can cost anywhere from $50 to $150 depending on the quality. The more expensive ones are designed for heavier individuals.
As I mentioned above, the two main reasons seniors have difficulty getting on and off the toilet are: 1) seat is too low and 2) there is no secure place to push or pull on to help them to stand. TSFs solves the first issue. A raised seat or toil-elevator can solve the second one.
