Pneumonia treatment with steroids

My mother is 99. She has been hospitalized for pneumonia. She is being given antibiotics to treat the pneumonia but the doctor also wants to give her steroids.

She has had steroids before and they cause her to hallucinate and have horrible dreams. The doctor knows this but tells us she needs it for inflammation.

Is there any other treatment for inflammation? Doesn't the antibiotic do the same thing?
