Resources / Books on Caring for Aging Parents

My parents are still independent, but are needing more and more help.

I haven't been through this before, and want to educate myself on the stages in the aging process, what to expect, how to know when they should stop driving, is it forgetfulness or dementia, etc.

Can someone recommend a book or an agency or how I can find out more?

Thank you,
Cheryl

Here are some resources NEW

Hi Cheryl, starting early is honestly one of the smartest things you can do so you are already ahead of most families. Two books worth grabbing are "When Your Aging Parent Needs Help" by Dr. Leslie Kernisan which covers exactly what you are asking about including the driving conversation and the forgetfulness versus dementia question in very clear and practical language, and "The 36-Hour Day" by Nancy Mace which is considered the gold standard guide for families navigating cognitive decline. If you want something beyond books, Hopebridge Home Health at hopebridge.care is a great resource for families in your position since they offer guidance on care options and can help you understand what level of support your parents may need as things progress.

Wishing you and your parents all the best, Cheryl.
